Zyggyz_daily_steal2

EatCU.com's newest Daily Steal is from Zyggyz Indian Grill located right on Green St in Campustown.

Zyggyz is Champaign's hottest Indian restaurant.... literally! You order your Zyggy rolls on a spiciness scale of 1-10 and only the bravest go above 7. If you manage to eat three level 10 Zyggy rolls they'll even paint you into the mural on their wall.

Along with their signature Zyggy rolls, Zyggyz offers traditional Indian favorites such as Tikka Masala, Beef Roganjosh, Curry, Saag Paneer, Dal Makhani and more. Their combo plates start at just $5.95 and come with two entrees & rice. Come with an appetite because they will fill you up.

Zyggyz also has our favorite falafel in town and their Veggie Sloppy Joes are a unique treat.

You can probably tell we love Zyggyz, but don't take out word for it. They've had great reviews from Champaign Taste and Smile Politely as well.

And finally, the best part of Zyggyz might just be that you can enjoy this great Indian joint at nearly any time of day - open from lunch through the bar rush!

Grab a Daily Steal and try them today.

Thank you Champaign Taste for the photos!

Leave the pizza. Take the calzone.

If you read my review about empanadas, then you know I’m a fan of meat, sauce, more meat and more sauce, all stuffed into a handy package of baked dough. What’s not to like?

Known for their calzones, D.P. Dough serves up a bunch of different flavors and options. I tried the Twilight Zone and the Construction Zone. The Twilight Zone (no relation to any vampires or werewolves…hopefully) has mozzarella, sausage and ‘secret spices.’ Your guess is as good as mine, but the spice combo works even if we don’t know what’s exactly in there.

For my custom Construction Zone, I added a three-cheese mix, meatballs, egg, black olives and spinach. This one was a lighter alternative to the Twilight Zone and I liked that you could add vegetables as well. My calzones came with marinara and Italian dipping sauces, which was essential for adding more flavor.

Moderately priced at around $6 (I got mine for $4.99 each with the EatCU deal), DP Dough’s calzones are a great alternative to pizza. They make each ‘zone with fat free dough and they offer salads, wings and chicken tenders as well. If you’re in the mood for something like pizza but none of your friends are hungry, one calzone is more than enough to get you full and satisfied.
